Rainy season shoes: keeping your feet dry and stylish

In the rainy season, wear smooth leather sneakers or shoes with rubber soles, treated with a water-repellent spray, and save suede, mesh and white canvas for dry days. Keep a spare pair at work, and when shoes get soaked, stuff them with paper and dry them slowly away from direct heat. Darker colours hide splashes.

When is the rainy season in Accra?
Southern Ghana has two rainy seasons: the main one from about April to June or July, and a shorter one around September to November. Rain often comes in heavy afternoon or evening storms.
How do I protect shoes before the rain?

How do I dry wet shoes?
- Remove insoles and laces.
- Blot water off the outside with a towel.
- Stuff with newspaper or paper towels; change the paper after a few hours.
- Dry at room temperature, away from direct sun, fires or heaters.
- Condition leather once dry.
Heat dries too fast, which cracks leather and weakens glue.
