Blazer vs suit jacket: what's the difference?

A suit jacket is made to be worn with matching trousers, usually in smooth, fine cloth with a sharp, structured look. A blazer is made to be worn on its own with different trousers, usually in a sturdier or textured cloth, often with patch pockets and contrasting buttons.
